Not Your Average Deli Sandwich: Spicy Nduja & Prosciutto Sourdough Creation

If you’re looking for a sandwich that packs a punch and satisfies your deli cravings, look no further. This sandwich mixes Spicy Nduja and Prosciutto with the creamy textures of Havarti cheese and a tangy crème fraîche mustard sauce. It’s perfect for a not so average lunch or quick dinner.

Ingredients (for 1 sandwich)

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • Nduja (enough to spread one slice)
  • 2-3 Slices of prosciutto or similar cured ham
  • 1 leaf baby gem lettuce
  • 3 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Crème fraîche and Dijon mustard sauce (mix to taste, seasoned with pepper)
  • Pickled red onions
  • Slices of Havarti cheese
  • Extra virgin olive oil for drizzling

Method

  1. Prepare the Bread:
  • Lay out the two slices of sourdough bread. Spread a generous layer of nduja on one slice, as if you’re buttering it, and then cover with slices of Havarti cheese.
  • On the other slice, spread the crème fraîche mustard sauce evenly. Top this slice with prosciutto and another layer of Havarti cheese.
  1. Grill the Sandwich:
  • Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over both slices, then place them under a preheated grill. Grill until the cheese on both slices begins to bubble and turn golden, which should take about 3-5 minutes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  1. Assemble the Sandwich:
  • Remove the toasted slices from the grill. On the slice with nduja and cheese, layer the lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, and pickled red onions.
  • Carefully place the other slice (with prosciutto and cheese) on top, cheese side down, to complete the sandwich.
  1. Serve:
  • Cut the sandwich in half to reveal the layered ingredients and serve immediately. The combination of spicy nduja, salty prosciutto, and tangy sauce makes this sandwich irresistibly delicious.
